Sir William Osler (140/944), Dr. Annie B. Jamieson Elementary School (150/944), and Sir Wilfred Laurier Elementary School (337/944) are all public elementary schools in the neighbourhood. Public secondary schools are the relatively highly ranked Sir Winston Churchill (69/289) or Eric Hamber Secondary School (69/289). Private school options nearby include: Vancouver Hebrew Academy, Vancouver Montessori School, King David High School (30/289), and Vancouver College (13/289). Top-ranked Crofton House School (4/289) and St. George’s School (6/289), Little Flower Academy (1/289) and York House (1/289) are all within a reasonable commute.

Housing

A large majority of the housing offerings in South Granville are single-family detached dwellings. Many of the houses are large, with space and bedrooms for large families and beautiful backyards for entertaining. While many offerings are new or renovated, some preserve the charm of Old Vancouver, influenced by the “South Hill development” of early Vancouver around the turn of the century. Expansion was fueled, at that time, by a streetcar that ran along the nearby West 41^st Ave, encouraging early growth. Condominiums and row houses are also available in the neighbourhood, with a few newer developments cropping up closer to Granville Street.

Location and Transportation

South Granville is located near the southwestern edge of Vancouver. The boundaries of the area are: W.41^st Ave to the North, Cypress Street to the West, Oak Street to the East, and W. 64^th Ave to the south. The neighbourhood is primarily residential, however, neighbourhoods with more amenities (Marpole and Kerrisdale) are a short drive away.

Granville Street, one of Vancouver’s main streets, cuts right through the neighbourhood, and continues to the edge of downtown at the Burrard Inlet. It is a main transportation route, providing residents with access to downtown Vancouver. It connects with several bus lines and skytrain lines. For those travelling south, Granville Street connects to Richmond and the 99 Highway, a main route for those travelling to suburban Vancouver, or the United States.

Montgomery Park

Montgomery Park is a 4 hectare park located in the middle of South Granville. Its home to a playground, soccer fields, a softball field and a field house.

Oak Park

Oak Park is a large 5.25 hectare green space near the southeastern edge of the neighbourhood. The park features: ball hockey, baseball diamonds, basketball courts, a community centre, lighted fields, outdoor roller rink, three soccer fields, two softball diamonds, tennis courts, and a small water park.

Marpole Commercial District

The nearby Marpole Commercial District features a charming stretch of businesses, a redeveloped and expanded grocery store, and many other convenient businesses.
