About Coal Harbour

Coal Harbour is a gorgeous Vancouver neighbourhood that sits on the northern edge of downtown. It is bordered to the northwest by Stanley Park, a gorgeous 1,001 acre public park that was recently voted the best park in the world by Trip Advisor. It is bordered to the southeast by Burrard Street, and nudges up against Vancouver’s small but active financial district. The neighbourhood is home to more upscale, high-rise condominiums and apartment buildings as many of the properties are on the water and feature stunning views of the park, the downtown core, and the beautiful North Shore Mountains. For any nautical fans, there is a private marina in the area as well as a nearby yacht club and rowing club. A new community centre provides a myriad of recreational options for residents.

Schools

While there are no schools officially within the neighbourhood boundaries, students living here live in the catchment for Lord Roberts Elementary School (523/944) and King George Secondary School (268/289), both nearby in the downtown core. BCIT and SFU, two degree granting institutions, have campuses just a short distance from Coal Harbour.

If independent schools are what you’re after, Alexander Academy, Pattison High School, Anchor Point Montessori School, and The Westside School are all in the downtown core. Madrona School, Fraser Academy, and St. John’s School (10/289) are all a short drive across the bridge.

Housing

Coal Harbour was redeveloped as a residential area in 1990 and is one of the more upscale neighbourhoods in downtown Vancouver. Most of the buildings are newer and have resort style amenities ” pools, gyms, saunas, and recreation rooms for entertaining guests. The estimated population is 9,300 living in more than forty high rise developments. There is also a very small selection of townhomes and low rise buildings. The waterfront placement of many of these buildings is a real draw. The buildings are tall and the views quite stunning.
