Education

There are six elementary schools in Collingwood: Dr. George M. Weir (318/944), Sir Guy Carleton (688/944), Dr. H.N. MacCorkindale (239/944), Graham D. Bruce Elementary (190/944), John Norquay Elementary (497/944), and Sir Wilfred Grenfell Elementary (179/944). Secondary schools include Killarney Secondary School (225/289) and Windermere Secondary School (151/289). Nearby independent schools include: Corpus Christi, Vancouver Formosa School, St. Mary’s School, Westside Montessori School, and Stratford Hall (69/289).

Housing

Collingwood is one of the more affordable neighbourhoods in Vancouver to purchase a single-family detached dwelling or condominium. The area has been targeted for development because of its superior access to transportation. The Collingwood Village development was completed in 2006 providing the area with 2,700 suites in 16 buildings. This development also included a grocery store, drug store, elementary school, community centre, daycares, retails spaces and a community policing centre.

Location and Transportation

Collingwood is a neighbourhood in East Vancouver. Boundary Road, the border between Burnaby and East Vancouver, is its eastern border. East 29^th Avenue is the northern boundary and Nanaimo Street cuts it off on the west. East 41^st Avenue, a major arterial driving and public transit route lies at the south with Kingsway, a quick and easy route to downtown Vancouver, running through the centre of it.Busses are available along Kingsway and two skytrain stations lie within Collingwood’s boundaries. In a 2006 study, it was reported that 56% of residents of the Collingwood Village development rely on public transit for transportation.

Neighbourhood Highlights

Central Park

Central Park is a large 90 hectare park in Burnaby, British Columbia. It’s close to Collingwood and features walking trails, pitch and putt golf, an outdoor pool, duck ponds, tennis courts, picnic areas, lawn bowling, and Swanguard Stadium.

Metrotown

Metrotown is a shopping centre nearby in Burnaby, which is the largest shopping mall in British Columbia. It has 450 stores, a cinema, two grocery stores, and amenities for all.

Collingwood Neighbourhood House

Collingwood Neighbourhood House is a community space, which services the diverse residents of the neighbourhood by providing support and encouraging inclusion. Their mission is to “respond to the community’s social, educational, economic, health, cultural and recreational needs.”
