Education

In Renfrew Heights there are four public elementary options: Renfrew Elementary (759/944), John Norquay Elementary (497/944), Sir Wilfred Greenfell Elementary (179/944), and Nootka Elementary (297/944). Most high school aged residents in this neighbourhood live in the catchment for Windermere Secondary School (151/289), however, some live in the boundaries of Vancouver Technical Secondary School (107/289). Private options in the neighbourhood include: Vancouver Christian School, St. Jude’s School (67/944), Westside Montessori Academy, and St. Mary’s School (103/944).

Housing

Primarily a residential neighbourhood, Renfrew Heights is home to many single family detached dwellings of all ages and sizes. Post-war bungalows and Vancouver Special style homes are popular, as are rebuilt homes on the full size lots. Price tags are more affordable. Condominiums and townhomes are less popular, but available.

Location and Transportation

Renfrew Heights is located on the far-east side of Vancouver, with the eastern boundary of the city accompanying the completion of the neighbourhood at Boundary Road. To the north, the area is bordered by Grandview Highway, and to the south and west, Nanaimo Street and Kingsway/East 29^th Ave, respectively. Residents living in the northern section of the neighbourhood have access to Renfrew Skytrain Station. Residents living in the southwest have easy access to Nanaimo Skytrain. Both of these stations link residents to downtown Vancouver and the transit hub at Commercial Drive Skytrain Station. At its eastern boundary, drivers have access to the Highway 1, an eight lane highway connecting residents to the North Shore, Whistler, Burnaby, Coquitlam and beyond.

Renfrew Ravine Park:

This 6 hectare park is home to one of the only natural creeks left in the city of Vancouver and has been targeted for revitalization by the city park’s department. The space is known to be very green and luscious and features interpretive signage, lookouts, seating, and beautiful foliage. It’s also home to the Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival.

Shopping

The commercial shopping options along Grandview Highway are convenient for families and include: A Canadian Superstore, a Wal-Mart, Deserres, Staples, Petsmart, and Canadian Tire.

Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children

This health centre is a service provided by BC Children’s Hospital and provides support for kids under the age of 19 who have complex developmental or physical difficulties.

Renfrew Park Community Centre

Renfrew Park Community Centre is a vibrant community hub that offers programming for all ages that celebrates the vibrant diversity of its inhabitants. Facilities include a fitness centre, indoor swimming pool, gym, sauna, a community spaces for rent to the public. The indoor swimming pool was renovated in 2005 to make it more accessible.

Beaconsfield Park

Beaconsfield Park is a large park in Northwest Renfrew Heights, which has baseball diamonds, a field hockey pitch, playground, soccer fields, and lighted fields.
