Schools

The newly-constructed Elsie Roy Elementary School (355/944) serves the residents of Yaletown. For high school students, King George Secondary School (268/289) is not far. If independent schools are what you’re after, Alexander Academy, Pattison High School, Anchor Point Montessori School, and The Westside School are all located in the downtown core.

Additionally several private religious are accessible in nearby East Vancouver, including: St. Francis Xavier School, Blessed Sacrament School, and St. Patrick Elementary and High School (103/289).

Yaletown was redeveloped after Expo 86 from a former industrial area to become a new home to luxury condominiums, converted low-rise buildings and a small selection of townhomes. It’s now an upscale area with some of the redeveloped buildings having a heritage or loft-style. Nearly ninety percent of the housing in Yaletown takes the form of condominiums in buildings more than five stories high. Most buildings offer underground parking, and many have bountiful amenities like pools, fitness centres, squash courts, saunas, and steams. Some buildings even offer kayak rentals out on False Creek and bowling lanes for entertaining guests.

Location and Transportation

Yaletown is a neighbourhood located in downtown Vancouver bordered by False Creek to the south, Burrard to the west and extends north as far as Robson street. It ends at Richard’s street, but an additional portion of it extends along the water toward Carrall Street. Its seaside location links Yaletown cyclists to several of the downtown bikeways. Yaletown also has its own station on the Canada Line Skytrain, connecting the neighbourhood to the airport, Vancouver’s Westside as well as the rest of downtown.

Mainland Street and Hamilton Street

Home to some of Vancouver’s best restaurants, nightlife, and shopping, high-end collides with heritage on these cobblestone streets. On the weekends, it’s nearly impossible to get into any of these luxurious watering holes without a reservation. Blue Water Cafe, Rodney’s Oyster House, and Glowbal are just a few delicious restaurants frequented by the hip, young professionals who live and play in this neighbourhood.

Parks

Residents of Yaletown have access to some of the city’s best seaside parks. David Lam Park is an impressive twelve acres and features play structures for children, outdoor films in the summer as well as stage with free music during the summertime jazz festival. Creekside and Cooper’s Park are also great options for afternoon strolls and dog walking.

Community Centres

Roundhouse Community Arts and Recreation Centre is a vibrant community space located in a converted heritage building. It was revitalized along with the rest of the neighbourhood for Expo 86 and provides community services and programs for residents. Classes for all ages are available here, along with theatre programming and rental spaces.
