Education

University Hill Elementary School (239/944) and the top ranked public secondary school in Vancouver, University Hill Secondary School (19/289), are located in this neighbourhood. Other top-ranked schools are just a short drive away. St. George’s School (6/289), Crofton House (4/289), West Point Grey Academy (4/289), and Our Lady of Perpetual Help School (1/944) are all good nearby options. The University neighbourhood is named for the University of British Columbia campus on which it sits. UBC is one of the top-ranked Universities in Canada.

Housing

The UBC Endowment Lands are leased to UBC by the province and the properties are managed by UBC Properties Trust in support of the University’s financial future. Areas designated by the University have been developed into townhomes, low-rise and high-rise condominium units for lease. The recently developed South Campus has brought commercial amenities into the neighbourhood so residents can walk to the grocery store and complete basic errands without having to leave campus. There’s also an attractive Faculty Home Ownership Program, which assists UBC Faculty in investing in a home on campus.

Location and Transportation

The University Neighbourhood is at the western edge of Vancouver out on a private peninsula. The fabulous green spaces that surround the campus are strikingly beautiful and the University is constantly being revitalized to update its buildings. UBC itself is a transit hub with a major bus loop so residents are well connected to downtown and to the various skytrain lines in the city. Shuttles also run around this campus, as it is large, and residents are well serviced by it. Downtown Vancouver and the airport are a short twenty minute drive in either direction.

Many of the University’s first-class amenities are open to the public, or to residents of the neighbourhood. The award-winning museums, arenas, tennis clubs, fields, and parks are family friendly. The University offers summer camps and classes for young students as well.

Museum of Anthropology

The Museum of Anthropology is on the northern edge of UBC campus and is famous for its collection of artifacts and art.

Beach Access

Two beautiful, natural beaches lie on the northern edge of UBC Campus: Wreck Beach and Tower Beach. While Wreck beach is clothing optional and attracts a liberal crowd, it boasts one of the most beautiful sunsets in the world. Tower Beach is a rockier option, but is more private and family friendly.
